Buccal fat reduction treatment in Mumbai is most often performed as a day case using local anaesthesia coupled with sedation or a general anaesthetic.
The surgery is carried through a short incision on the inner cheek inside the mouth. These incisions heal very well and the scar is not visible.
The targeted area is numbed injecting a solution of Lidocaine, epinephrine and saline which also helps limit bleeding, then a small 2cm to 4 cm long incision is made between cheek and gums. The surgeon will then press on the outside of your cheek to make the buccal fat bulge through the incision so it can be teased out of it a little at a time with surgical tweezers. Once an adequate amount has been removed, the incision is closed, most often with dissolvable sutures.
Bruising and swelling are normal after surgery and subside in a matter of days or weeks. In most instances however, bruising and swelling is very limited from the beginning.
Because of the incision inside the mouth, the patient is advised to eat a restricted diet for a while and can also be instructed to rinse mouth several times a day with an antibacterial mouthwash.
Most patient recover fully within three weeks; however, recovery rates vary and are influenced by your general health, nutrition and the extent of the procedure.
